Paul Somerville

Paul Somerville was born into a military family in Pennsylvania in 1947 and attended twelve different schools in twelve years. He attended Evangel College and the University of Missouri majoring in chemistry and biology. While in school, Mr. Somerville participated in Varsity athletics. His pipeline career began when he worked as a laborer during the summer months while attending college.

After leaving college, Mr. Somerville went to work as a laboratory technician for Peck’s Products, a Division of Consolidated Foods, in St. Louis, Missouri. During the six months with Peck’s Products, Mr. Somerville received two promotions and left with the title of Research Chemist.

Mr. Somerville returned to the pipeline industry working as a labor steward and eventually training in four crafts necessary for pipeline construction. He then began working for Panhandle Construction as an Office Manager and Field Engineer.

Mr. Somerville has worked in various positions in the pipeline industry in field operations. He joined Associated Pipe Line Contractors, Inc., a Reading & Bates subsidiary company and moved to the Houston office in 1976 as a Project Engineer. In 1977 he was promoted to Assistant to the President, prior to that he served as Project Manager to a subsidiary company.

Mr. Somerville played an integral part in Associated Pipe Line Contractors, Inc. and Reading & Bates successful international expansion. He completed an assignment as General Manager for a joint venture project in Saudi Arabia. He spent two years in London providing international marketing, contract negotiations, and supporting foreign operations. He established and managed large ongoing operations in Sudan and Saudi Arabia.

In 1980, Mr. Somerville was promoted to the position of Vice President and Assistant to the President. To reflect the company’s growth internationally, he was promoted to Vice President of Foreign Operations, followed up with his promotion to Executive Vice President.

It was 1985 when he and several associates from Reading & Bates bought Associated Pipe Line Contractors, Inc. He is now Chairman and CEO of the Houston based company.

Mr. Somerville is a Lifetime Vice President, Director, and past Treasurer of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He has served on the Audit Committee and the Skybox Committee. He currently serves on the International Committee, Educational Committee, the Long Range Planning Committee and the RITE Program Advisory Committee. His business involvement with the International Committee has led to hosting numerous visiting Heads of State and government representatives.

Mr. Somerville also currently serves on the Executive Committee and is a past Chairman of the Board for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He and his family have been Corporate Contributors and Champion Buyers for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for several years. He is also a member of Wagon 4 and the Tejas Vaqueros.
