CANINE UNIT

Originating in 1959, the Houston Police Department's K-9 Unit is one of the oldest Patrol Divisions on the department. There are currently thirty-nine teams in the K-9 unit which are assigned to various sections throughout the police department.

The Narcotics Division utilizes canines for Drug Detection. There are currently 12 teams in the Narcotics Division and are assigned to various sections throughout the police department. See photo gallery for Narcotics Canines currently in need of sponsors.

SPONSOR-A-K9 PROGRAM

To ensure the K-9 Unit is able to operate at its current capacity, we are seeking financial support from corporations, organizations, and individuals to offset the unit's operating costs. Accordingly, we are requesting that you consider sponsoring an HPD K-9.
